Incredible Istanbul!

More than 30 years ago I was introduced to the Hagia Sophia through my first art appreciation class. (Thank you Paul Grootkerk). Only a dream then, I knew I’d visit eventually. This week that dream was realized.

Hired to teach a watercolor masterclass for the Istanbul Watercolor Society, Marla and I made the trek to Turkey last week. The class was an exciting, cross-cultural exchange of ideas, art (and we even sang a few Beatles songs together. 🙂

I was made the first Honorary Member of the Istanbul Watercolor Society, and left a painting in their permanent collection.

The artists in my workshop were all amazing, friendly and energetic. They have been very welcoming and have shown us the best parts of their amazing city.  We’ve made very strong bonds with these new friends, and we’ll likely be returning to Istanbul often. We have another few days to explore and play yet. 🙂
